Outreach

St. John’s ministers to immediate local needs of the West Point community primarily through our participation in the Good Neighbor Center, a local ecumenical program sponsored by the West Point Ministerial Association which provides food, clothing and assistance to needy persons in the area. In addition, many parishioners have active ministries in the community, such as through the Good Neighbor Center’s meals-on-wheels and working at Laurel Shelter.

Other outreach giving from the operating budget has included scholarships to the Family Conference at Shrine Mont for members of St. Paul’s, West Point and Grace Church, Miller’s Tavern and sponsorship of the West Point Ministerial Association’s community youth summer lunch program. Additional gifts were made to the Virginia Theological Seminary, the School of Theology at the University of the South, General Theological Seminary, Jackson-Feild Homes (a residential facility for girls), the Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury Foundation (supporting a local life-care institution), Laurel Shelter (a local facility for abused women and children), the auxiliary of Riverside Convalescent Center, the Good Neighbor Center and Episcopal Relief & Development.
